Arrive in Istanbul at 0455 am and on to HATAY ( Antakya) on TK2252 dep: 0850 am arr:1040. Upon arrival, we will drive straight to Seleucia Pieria, ancient seaport of Antioch where Saint Paul and Saint Barnabas departed on their first missionary journey, according to Acts 13:4. Today, the most famous remains in the area are the Vespasian–Titus Tunnel, an impressive Roman engineering work built to divert floodwaters, plus ruins of the ancient port and city. Lunch. In the afternoon ,followed by a visit to St. Peter’s cave church in Antakya. On to Adana. Dinner and overnight. (L, D)
ADANA– TARSUS –CAPPADOCIA. After breakfast, drive to Tarsus, the birthplace of Saint Paul. Upon arrival, visit St. Paul’s Well, traditionally associated with the house of Saint Paul, and continue to St. Paul Memorial Museum / Church, one of the main Christian heritage sites in the city. The visit also includes Cleopatra’s Gate, the ancient Roman Road, and a short walk through the old town of Tarsus, reflecting the historical atmosphere of the city where Saint Paul spent his early years. Lunch en route. Then we will continue to Cappadocia. Upon arrival, short sightseeing. We will stop at the Pasabag Valley (Valley of Monks) – where monks used to live in seclusion Dinner and overnight. (B ,L, D)
CAPPADOCIA. Optional hot Air balloon flight (+/- 300 usd per person) . Visit the Red Valley (Devrent), then the Uchisar castle that provides some of the most dramatic panoramas of the astonishing Cappadocia. On to Göreme Valley Outdoor Museum to view the frescoes of the famous churches known by the names Apple, Barbara, Sandal and Snake churches, an underground city and Ürgüp fairy chimneys (Three Beauties). Next, we drive to Avanos, famous for its pottery making since Hittite times and for its rugs, which are the splendid representations of the Turkish carpet making tradition. Here we will visit a carpet manufactory and jewellery workshop. Dinner and overnight in Cappadocia. (B ,L, D)
CAPPADOCIA – KONYA (ICONIUM) – ANTIOCH OF PISIDIA – ISPARTA. Drive to Konya known in antiquity as Iconium, is one of the important cities associated with Saint Paul and Saint Barnabas. During their first missionary journey, they came to Iconium after preaching in Pisidian Antioch. According to the Acts of the Apostles, Saint Paul preached in the synagogue of Iconium, making today’s Konya an important stop on the footsteps of Saint Paul in Anatolia. Lunch. In the afternoon we will continue to Yalvaç to visit the site of the Roman colony of Pisidian Antioch. Paul visited this city on his three missionary journeys. His first recorded sermon in Acts 13 addressed the congregation of Jews and Godfearers in the synagogue. After the visit, we will continue to Isparta. Dinner and overnight. (B,L, D)
ISPARTA – COLOSSAE- PAMUKKALE .After breakfast, we will drive to the beautiful unexcavated site of Colossae This is an important site for Christians to visit since Paul sent two letters to this city: one to the church of Colossae and one to the rich Christian slave–owner Philemon, who hosted the Colossian church in his home. Lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit the famous Pamukkale, popularly known as the ‘Cotton Castle’, the dazzling formation of white calcium cascades formed by mineral springs and the ruins of Roman health spa of Hierapolis. Dinner and overnight at a SPA hotel in Pamukkale. (B ,L,D)
PAMUKKALE – LAODICEA – PHILADELPHIA – SARDIS – KUSADASI Today our first visit will be the Laodicea, one of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor called lukewarm and insipid in the Book of Revelation (3:16). Then we will drive to Philadelphia is known as steadfast in the faith, keeping God’s word, and enduring patiently according to the Book of Revelation 3:7-13). Lunch. Our last visit will be the famous Sardis, ancient capital of Persians, admonished for – in contrast to its good reputation – being dead; cautioned to fortify itself and return to God through repentance according to the Book of Revelation (3:1-6). In the late afternoon we will drive to Kusadası. Dinner and overnight. (B ,L D)
KUSADASI – EPHESUS –TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS – KUSADASI. Our first visit will be Ephesus the holy city of Artemis, the Roman capital of Asia Minor, and one of the most attractive archaeological sites in the world. You will see the Odeon, the Hadrian Temple, the Celsus Library, Fountain of Trajan, brothel, latrines, baths, Curetes and Marble streets and we’ll sit in the same immense Theatre where St. Paul preached and roman dramas were performed. Lunch will be served in the Kusadasi area . After then we will stop at the Temple of Artemis, which was once one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Our last visit will be the Saint John Basilica built during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I over what was believed to be St. John’s burial chamber. Dinner and overnight in Kusadasi. KUSADASI – SMYRNA – PERGAMUM – ISTANBUL Today we will drive to Smyrna admired for its tribulation and poverty; forecast to suffer persecution according to the Book of Revelation (2:8-11). Then we will continue to Pergamon antic city, second most important city of the Hellenistic Era after Ephesus in Asia Minor. The temple of Zeus in the ancient city of Pergamum is stated as the seat of the Satan in the Book of Revelation (2:12-17). Lunch. In the afternoon, we will drive to Istanbul. Overnight in Istanbul. ISTANBUL After breakfast we will visit the Istanbul Adventist Church (Permission will be required), at the hotel, we begin our day with the visit of historic Hippodrome, once the centre of political and social life in Constantinople. Lunch will be served in the Sultanahmet area, surrounded by the city’s most famous landmarks. In the afternoon, we explore the Grand Bazaar, one of the world’s largest and oldest covered markets, and finish the day at the Spice Bazaar, famous for its vibrant colours and exotic aromas. In the evening, transfer back to the hotel for overnight in Istanbul. (B,L)
